Chinese stocks end slightly lower, 3 December 2009

Chinese stocks ended slightly lower on Thursday dragged by market heavyweights.
 
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, dropped 0.16% or 5.12 points to close at 3,264.63 points after fluctuating between 3,227.77 and 3,270.37 points.
 
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange shed 0.29% or 29.25 points to 13,759.83 points, after touching an intraday low of 13,604.15 points.
 
Gainers in the Shanghai market outnumbered decliners 471 to 350, while 38 were unchanged. Aggregated turnover on the two bourses stood at RMB 319.25 billion.
 
China Merchants Bank<600036><3968> dropped 0.98% to RMB 17.24. China Construction Bank<601939><0939> fell 0.67% to RMB 5.97. China Minsheng Banking<600016> shed 1.29% to RMB 7.67. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank<600000> slipped 0.72% to RMB 22.11.
 
Market heavyweight PetroChina<601857><0857>, the national's top oil producer, declined 0.37% to RMB 13.53, while Asia's largest oil refiner, Sinopec<600028><0386>, rose 0.34% to close at RMB 11.94.
 
Securities firms were strong today. Haitong Securities<600837> rose 3.36% to RMB 16.94. CITIC Securities<600030> increased 1.21% to RMB 30.13.
 
Steel Stocks also gained. Baoshan Iron & Steel Co<600019>, China's largest steelmaker also known as Baosteel, jumped 3.64% to RMB 9.11. Wuhan Iron & Steel Co<600005> climbed 0.58% to RMB 8.48.
